MANUAL 14. Rankings
Back to the table of contents
Each team manager plays for his team.
The more successful, the more points the team earns for its city.
The cities collect points together for their country.
This results in the city ranking and the country ranking, which are decisive for the distribution of promotion places to the higher leagues.

Why rankings?
What makes football, besides the pure sport, so interesting, why does it captivate so many people and connect through all classes?
It's about passion, emotion and honour. The regional connection and affiliation are fundamental cornerstones of football communities. It is not only about one's own team, it is usually also about the city and rivalries with other, usually neighbouring, cities. This is what gives rise to emotions and a high fun factor over a long period of time.
To be successful, to compete in one's own community with one's own team at the beginning.
After advancing to the 5th ONLINELEAGUE, playing against the best teams from all over the city, the county and earning points in the ranking, together, for the city.
From the 4th ONLINELEAGUE onwards, it's all about competing across the country. The opponents become associations, fans. Common cause for the city, to be better than the neighbouring city. In the country ranking, but then again together with the neighbouring city, for the common country.
The team from the own village, which made it to the 1st ONLINELEAGUE and collects many points for the region is supported, it is cheered along. It's about the ranking, about the honour!
The rankings are a momentum which changes every day. And it never stops.
Aside from the suspense factor, the ranking also serves a very different, important function:
Without the ranking, there would be the same number of advancement slots in each city. So it doesn't matter if I hold my own in a district with 500 thoroughly strong teams and end up at the top, or if I beat out just 36 weak teams. It wouldn't make a difference.
Then some teams would just sign up in a weak region because promotion is easier.

So ranking makes it much more fair and balanced. A counterbalance:
Many good teams in a city means many ranking points, thus many promotion spots. It follows: It will be difficult to play at the top, but whoever is at the top has a very good chance to get a promotion spot because there are many of them. Conclusion: On the one hand difficult, on the other hand easy.
With few, rather weak teams, it is easier to reach a top place. But: most of the time only the first place team goes up or even has to qualify, because the region is at the bottom of the ranking due to less points. Conclusion: On the one hand easy, on the other hand hard.

Conclusion: The ranking and the number of promotion places, which is connected with it, provides a certain balance in the league system.

(1) Selecting a country. The ranking refers only to cities from this country. Optionally, all cities from all countries can also be displayed.
(2) For the current or for each past season, the ranking can be displayed.
(3) Sorting setting. It is sorted either by points, or simply by number of teams. Relevant for the number of promotion places is only the ranking by points.
All teams from one city, from one county, play together to score points for your city. Points are awarded according to the following criteria:

The number of teams in a city
So a purely quantitative value: the more teams, the more points for the city.
The height of the league
The higher a team plays, the more points it is credited with. A team from ONLINELEAGUE 1 earns significantly more points than a team playing in ONLINELEAGUE 6.
The duration
The longer a team has been around, the more points are credited to the city. So tradition also brings advantages for the city. Every single matchday counts. The ranking tables change every day.

For the following performances only teams from the 1st to the 4th ONLINELEAGUE will be credited with additional points for the city:
Number of points in the league
The more successful a team is in its league, the more points it gets for the city.
Championship bonus
Extra points are awarded for every team that finishes in 1st place at the end of the season, i.e. becomes champion of a state or of the 3rd, 2nd or 1st ONLINELEAGUE.

These additional points are only available from the 4th ONLINELEAGUE on, because points and championships within the own district (6th and 5th ONLINELEAGUE) of course have no relevance.
At the end of each season, the direct promotion spots and the play-off spots from the 5th to the 4th ONLINELEAGUE are distributed and displayed based on the ranking positions. The better a city is in the ranking, the more promotion spots it gets.
There are constellations in which a city is ranked ahead of another city, but still receives fewer or even no promotion spots.
This can have the following reasons:
There is no 5th ONLINELEAGUE in the city yet. So no promotion spots either.
There is no separate 5th ONLINELEAGUE in this city. Teams from this city only play in collective leagues with teams from other cities. No team from this city is on a promotion place but too far back in the table. For this reason there is no promotion spot for this city.
There is no separate 5th ONLINELEAGUE in this city. Teams from this city only play in collective leagues with teams from other cities.

(1) Sort setting. It will be sorted either by points, or simply by number of teams. Relevant for the number of promotion places is only the ranking by points.
5 countries are fighting for the best places in the country ranking. For the calculation, the points of all cities of each country are added together.
At the end of each season, the direct promotion places and the play-off places from the 4th to the 3rd ONLINELEAGUE are distributed and displayed based on the ranking positions. The better a country is in the ranking, the more promotion spots it gets.

An example:

Country A is currently at the top of the country rankings. Therefore country A gets two direct promotion places and a play-off place for the 3rd ONLINELEAGUE. Country B is on the second last place and gets only 1 play-off place, just like the last placed country C.

There are constellations in which a country is ranked ahead of another country, but still receives fewer or even no promotion spots.
This can have the following reasons:
There is no 4th ONLINELEAGUE in this country yet. So no promotion spots either.
There is no separate 4th ONLINELEAGUE in this country. Teams from this country only play in collective leagues with teams from other countries. No team from this country is on a promotion place but too far back in the table. For this reason there is no promotion place for this country.

The points and the current ranking are always calculated up-to-date. So you can see live where your city stands compared to other cities. Neighbouring cities or rival cities can see at any time who is just in front.

The better, the more successful a team plays, the more points it collects for its region and it becomes more and more the shield of its home country.
The whole „village“ stands behind the team which fights in the 1st ONLINELEAGUE for the title, even if it has previously landed series of blowout against their own village teams. All news and facts are spread via the social media, the level of awareness is growing and with it the number of fans.

(1) Via the filters can be set whether all teams, or only teams from a particular country, district or community should be displayed.
Here the teams are judged according to the following criteria:
League (the higher the league the more points)
Time (the longer the time and the higher the leagues played, the more points)
Championship (1st place at the end of the season. The higher the league the more points)
Number of wins / points
Number of goals scored

This table has no further meaning for promotions or the like, but only serves as a means of comparison.
